A short ten-minute meditation in the newly conserved and re-opened Reading Abbey ruins. This recording was made at the south end of the abbey, in what was the monks dormitories. the ubiquitous sounds of urban life in the distance are augmented with the turning-over of a lawn sprinkler playing 16ths and 32nds (spaced pair of Sennheiser 8020s with SD MixPre6)

This upload captures the end of the morning sitting, the bells sounding to invite participants to stand, bow and leave the room together. Participants are in noble silence as they leave (a period of silence lasting from the evening sitting meditation at 8.30pm to breakfast at 8.30am). Bunkfest is a free-access community festival in Wallingford that has been running for 15 years (2001-2016). As part of the entertainment, stalls are set out around the town square and dancers and musicians from all over Southern England take it in turns to entertain the public gathered about. This recording captures the band and the dancers’ shouts, calls, the clashing of sticks and the rhythm of the bells attached to their legs. Binaural recording using Luhd PM-01s and a Tascam DR-05.

Riverside meditation on the banks of the Thames at South Stoke on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. The wind rustling the bushes overhanging the river is layered with the sounds of pleasure boats and trains passing by, aircraft from nearby RAF Benson and Chiltern Aerodrome, and people relaxing in the gardens of the properties on the opposite side of the river.
